Placer County, CA - Due to little fire activity and high percentage of containment, the American River Complex will be transitioning to a local type three team on Wednesday July, 23rd. The type three organization will be in place to manage the remainder of the uncontained fire line and complete remaining rehabilitation projects.

A helicopter flew the perimeter of the fire yesterday with infrared technology and found various hot spots. Crews will walk the area today with GPS units, locate the hot spots, and extinguish them.

The California National Guard successfully completed their last day of training yesterday. They now have the qualifications of a basic fire fighter and may be deployed to fight fires in other areas.

Rehabilitation is progressing very well on the northwest, southern, and east flanks of the fire. Hotshot crews will extinguish hot spots along the northeast flank, along the American River, while crews put out remaining hot spots on the northwest flank of the fire.

A hotshot crew will continue to monitor the fire in Big Valley Canyon and helicopters will drop buckets of water as needed.

Demobilization of unneeded resources is occurring and they are being made available for use on other higher priority incidents.

Fire restrictions remain in place on the Tahoe National Forest. Information on fire restrictions is available at www.fs.fed.us/r5/tahoe.

Several road, trail and area closures remain in effect. Please see http://www.inciweb.org/ or www.fs.fed.us/r5/tahoe/fire/index.shtml for the complete listing of closures.
