Important News:

Firefighters achieved 100% containment of the Yolla Bolly Fire yesterday evening (August 19th). The Type II Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team Bravo (Blume) will transition command of the fire with the Great Basin Type II Team (Lund) today. The transfer of command to the Great Basin Team will occur at 6 AM tomorrow (August 21st).

This will be the last update on the fire from the Rocky Mountain Team. Future updates will be coordinated through the Great Basin Team.

Current Fire Situation: Fire behavior will increase as indices rise with the upcoming peak of the fire season. The mosaic nature of the burn has created a high potential for large areas of internal burning. Re-burn potential is moderate due to cured and partially burned vegetation through out the fire area.

Today's Objectives: Crews will patrol and continue repair operations today.

Fire managers will maintain the availability of initial attack resources for contingency forces.

Area Closures: Hunters are reminded that the Yolla Bolly-Middle Eel Wilderness is closed to public access due to the fire. In addition the Jones Ridge area south east of Ruth is also closed. Area closures are also in effect for the Shasta-Trinity National Forest lands where the fire is burning. Specifically the Rat Trap area (Forest Road 45) is closed to public access. For more information on Forest road closures, contact the respective national forests listed in this update's letterhead.

Additional Fire Information: The Yolla Bolly Incident Information Center is located at the Ruth Fire Camp and will be in operation from 8 AM to 8 PM. The Incident Information phone number is 866-751-0788. Please note that the information phone number may change on Thursday, August 21st.
