Important News: Fire crews moped up a hot spot detected within the containment line by an infrared aerial patrol flight. Infrared technology can be deployed on aircraft and is used to detect heat sources. Firefighters can then be directed to the hot spots using the infrared detection map.

Crews are also working to contain a 2 acre spot fire located near the fire containment line. Currently, the spot fire is causing little resistance to control.

The fire continues to deepen containment lines as it burns interior fuels with moderate fire behavior.

Current Fire Situation: Fire behavior is increasing as indices rise with the upcoming peak of the fire season. Forecasted mixing winds should clear out most of the smoke layering providing for a slight increase in fire activity. The increased visibility should also allow for increased air operations including aerial recon of Branches II and III.

Today's Objectives: Crews will continue to contain, mop up and patrol the fire. Fire managers will maintain the availability of initial attack resources for contingency forces.

A dozer and a hand crew will continue rehabilitation work on the Trough Fire. Air patrol will be utilized to patrol Branches II and III with flights scheduled twice each day.

Structures and Resources Threatened: The structural protection of private holdings near Henthorne Lake and the Forest Service historic buildings have been completed.

Area Closures: Hunters are reminded that the Yolla Bolly-Middle Eel Wilderness is closed to public access to facilitate firefighting efforts. In addition the Jones Ridge area south east of Ruth is also closed due to fire activity. Forest road 501 will be closed to public access at the Ruth Guard Station. The Jones Ridge Road (Forest Road 23) will be closed at the headwaters of Happy Camp Creek. For more information on Forest road closures, contact the respective national forests listed in this update's letterhead.

Additional Fire Information: The Yolla Bolly Incident Information Center is located at the Ruth Fire Camp and will be in operation from 8 AM to 8 PM. The Incident Information phone number is 866-751-0788. Summary information, photos, and maps of the incident will continue to be available online at http://www.inciweb.org/.
