Yolla Bolly Complex Evening Update 7/4/08

Incident: Yolla Bolly Complex Wildland Fire
Released: 7/4/2008

Friday, July 4, 2008: 7:00 pm

Evening Update: Today, crews completed line construction for a planned burnout on the southeast flank of the Slides and Harvey Fires of the Yolla Bolly Complex. The Camp and Jacket Fires are now 100% contained but will continue to be monitored. The Yellow and Grouse fires are being allowed to burn into natural barriers, such as rock outcrops. The Sulphur and Vinegar Fires are burning together. The north flank of the Vinegar Fire is moving onto the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.

On Saturday, a burnout is planned using containment lines and natural barriers along the southeast flank of the Slides and Harvey Fires. The burnout will be implemented with both hand and aerial ignition devices. This strategy will restrict the fires from moving out of the wilderness and onto the surrounding private lands.

Closure Announcement: The Yolla Bolly Wilderness remains closed to the public until further notice in order to provide for fire fighter and public safety.
