Siskiyou/blue2 Complex Update for Wednesday August
Incident: Siskiyou/ Blue 2 Complex-klamath Theater Wildland Fire
Released: 8/27/2008
There is a Red Flag Warning for strong winds and low relative humidity is in effect for the northern portion of the Siskiyou/Blue 2 Complex. Wednesday night and into Thursday the Siskiyou/Blue 2 Complex is expecting northeast winds 10-15 MPH with gusts up to 20 MPH. These high winds, warmer temperatures, and lower relative humidity levels will increase the chance for fire activity where there is an ignition source. Surface fire with smoldering ground fire will increase smoke production in the area. Fire managers and personnel will continue to watch for any active fire behavior during these weather conditions.
Helicopters continue to support the fire fighters near the headwaters of Dillon Creek in their efforts to mop-up hot spots. Repair and rehabilitation work is nearing completion along the northeast edge of the complex. Crews are moving to the south to assist in completing the remaining work.
Along the western side of the Blue 2 Fire, rehabilitation work is nearing completion. Monitoring of the fire along Cresent Creek Fork continues.
The decrease in acreage for the Complex is due to the increased accuracy using Radiometric mapping technology.
Closures: To protect public safety and facilitate fire suppression efforts, closures of trails and roads are in effect for the Klamath and Six Rivers National Forests. The Salmon River Road from Somes Bar eastward is open to the public.
