Siskiyou/ Blue 2 Complex-klamath Theater News Release

Update for 8/22/08

Incident: Siskiyou/ Blue 2 Complex-klamath Theater Wildland Fire
Released: 8/22/2008

Current Situation:

At this time there is a low potential for growth along un-trailed portions of the fires because of the moisture received recently. The situation may change as the area dries out and warmer weather develops. Fire activity is occurring in limited areas and in heavy fuels such as logs and deep duff.

Today, personnel will continue to mop-up, strengthen and secure the line area in the confluence of Blue Creek and Crescent City Fork. Cold trailing operations will be conducted along the western flank of the Blue 2 fire. Crews are working on repairing and rehabilitating areas affected by fire suppression efforts along the east and southern portions of the Siskiyou fire. Plans are continuing in development for dealing with the northwest portion of the Siskiyou fire above Elk Valley. Personnel are scouting the area and are beginning to cold trail along the fire edge. (Cold trailing is a method of controlling a partly dead fire edge by careful inspection and feeling with the hand so as to detect any fire and extinguishing it by digging out every live spot and trenching any live edge.)

Cooperation:The Karuk and Yurok tribal representatives and the Klamath and Six Rivers National Forests are providing consultation with infrastructures, cultural sites, ecological settings, and other areas of concerns with the ORCA Incident Management Team.

Trails: Summit Valley Trail-3E07; Boundary Trail-4E50.
