Firefighters "corral" Fire Near Eagle Lake!

Incident: Corral Wildland Fire
Released: 7/7/2008

Firefighters scoured the dry hillsides and valleys within the perimeter of the Corral Fire today on "search & extinguish" assignments for the few, remaining bits of smoldering heat and smoke from the fire. Aircraft, set up with special heat-detecting, infra-red equipment conducted aerial reconnaissance, finding only some minor amounts of heat adjacent to the fire lines. Extensive mop-up and patrol operations are underway to locate and douse any residual "hold overs" of heat. With the current resources and the predicted weather, the Corral Fire is anticipated to be one-hundred percent "corraled" (contained) by Monday evening, July 7.

Meanwhile, a rehabilitation group of resource specialists from the BLM and the Forest Service are busily repairing dozer lines, building water bars to prevent erosion, watering access roads, and, evaluating whether or not additional restoration work may be needed.

Larsen's Northern Rockies National Incident Management Team is transitioning the Corral Fire back to CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit, with the formal transfer of command scheduled for Tuesday, July 8 at @8:00 am. This will be the final update posted on InciWeb prepared by the Northern Rockies team. The Team would like to thank the greater Eagle Lake community for their generous hospitality during our tenure on this incident. It has been our privilege to serve the citizens of northeastern California.
