Firefighters Make Final Push
Incident: Corral Wildland Fire
Released: 7/6/2008
CORRAL FIRE IS 70% CONTAINED
Good progress was made yesterday in all divisions of the Corral Fire. Firefighters continued to press forward extending and reinforcing containment lines as well as searching out and extinguishing "hot spots." Some minor smoldering and creeping fire was observed in a few sections of the Corral Fire. A rehabilitation group began fire suppression repair work on the interior dozer lines and temporary access roads around the cooler parts of the fire. A substantial amount of equipment, e.g. water hose, portable water tanks, is scattered throughout the fire area; crews started to haul miscellaneous gear to designated locations for transport. Larsen's Northern Rockies National Incident Management Team began to coordinate with officials from the CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit on a plan to turn the Corral Fire back to the local unit.
Today's Planned Events:
Mop-up and/or patrol will carry on throughout all sections of the Corral Fire. Crews will grind forward with the tough, dirty task of finishing the control lines and caging the fire. In the contained portions of the fire, the rehabilitation group will continue to assess the natural resource impacts of the suppression efforts, identify repair needs and go on with their restoration work.
Special Concerns:
Because of the high fire danger, CAL FIRE has suspended all burning permits in Lassen and Modoc counties. The Lassen National Forest has fire restrictions in place. Firewood cutting has been suspended, campfires are allowed only in designated recreation sites, and, vehicles are restricted to roads & trails. Eagle Lake is a popular destination for summer visitors; all recreational facilities remain open.
Independence Day weekend revelers are reminded that all fireworks are prohibited
in the Lassen National Forest and on state and private lands.
