Corral Fire 25% Contained
Incident: Corral Fire Wildland Fire
Released: 7/2/2008
Yesterday's Fire Activities: Northerly winds aided fire suppression efforts along the Corral Fire's northern perimeter, enabling firefighters to make significant gains, extending and reinforcing firelines. However, these same winds tested containment lines along the southeast portion of the fire, causing small spot fires outside the lines. Helicopter bucket drops greatly helped to check the fire's wind-driven advance, allowing fire crews to directly attack the blaze. The Corral Fire continued to actively burn in some areas, especially in heavy fuels and thick timber, spurred by erratic, afternoon winds. In general, the Corral Fire is moving in a northerly direction, with fire growth occurring along its uncontained perimeter. Today's Planned Events: Firefighters will concentrate on two fronts of the Corral Fire - holding and reinforcing the southern flank of the fire; and, expanding the containment line along the fire's ragged, northern edge. Engines will continue to support mop up and patrol operations along the fire's eastern and southwestern flanks. BLM and Forest Service resource advisors will begin evaluating potential rehabilitation needs on the lands under their respective jurisdictions. Special Concerns:Because of the high fire danger, CAL FIRE has suspended all burning permits in Lassen and Modoc counties. The Lassen National Forest has fire restrictions in place. Firewood cutting has been suspended, campfires are allowed only in designated recreation sites, and, vehicles are restricted to roads & trails. Eagle Lake is a popular destination for summer visitors; all recreational facilities remain open. Weather Forecast: Weather forecast calls for continued hot, dry conditions, with high temperatures in the mid-to-upper 80s and relative humidity in the teens. For more information:·· Email Corral Fire Information: http://corralfireinfo@gmail.com·· California Fire Information: http://www.fire.ca.gov/ ·· Corral Fire & other information: http://www.inciweb.org
