Whiskey Fire Recreation Advisory

Incident: Whiskey Wildland Fire
Released: 6/17/2008

Active wildland fire fighting continues on the Whiskey Fire in the Mendocino National Forest, about five miles west of the community of Paskenta.

All campgrounds in the national forest are open; however, portions of Forest Roads M-2 and M-4 in the fire area remain temporarily closed to public travel to expedite movement of fire equipment and personnel to the fire lines.

Sugarfoot Glade, Three Prong, Kingsley Glade and Whitlock campgrounds, located west of the wildland fire, are open to the public but cannot be accessed from Paskenta because of the road closures. They can be reached from the west side of the national forest. From the Eel River Work Station, take M-1 to M-2.

From the Sacramento Valley side they can be reached by traveling Collier Springs Road west from Red Bluff (County Road 356) to Forest Road M-22 near Valentine Ridge and connecting to M-2 road near Ball Rock, west of the wildland fire.

Forest officials advise that air conditions in the campgrounds may be smokey and that alternate routes are longer from the east side of the forest.
