Incident: Evans Road Wildland Fire

Sunday Evening Brief Update:
·· The acreage of the fire (41,060 acres) has not increased.
·· Water is being pump from Phelps Lake and New Lake into the burned area utilizing 35 large volume pumps. They are pumping an estimated 92 thousand gallons per minute running 24 hours per day. Burned areas are flooded with water in an attempt to put out the ground fire. After one area in flooded, the pumps are moved to a new area to repeat the cycle.
·· Progress on containment over the past several days has resulted in containment now being estimated at 60 percent with an estimated 5 miles of fireline to build.
·· A Dense Smoke Advisory is in effect until 10:00 this evening.

·· The cost to date is now $3,860,001.
·· There are currently 514 people assigned to the fire.
·· The evacuation order for the Waterway Landing Community has been lifted.
Two public meetings will be held on Monday, June 16, 2008 in Manteo, NC. A meeting designed for business owners and government officials is planned for 3:00 pm and will be held at the Outer Banks Visitor Bureau Conference Room, One Visitor's Circle, Manteo, NC. A second meeting will be held for residents and visitors of the Outer Banks at 7:00 pm at the large auditorium at Roanoke Island Festival Park. Both meetings will discuss the smoke issues and impacts related to the Evans Road Fire.

Resources on the Fire
35 tractor/plow units; 4 flex tracks; 4 water tenders; 46 engines. Air resources available include: 2 lead planes; 2 national contract large air tankers and 2 NC Forest Service Single Engine Air Tankers; 2 air tactical group planes; and 3 helicopters.

Plans for Tomorrow
