Containment Reaches 90 Percent on X Fire
Fire Name: X Fire
Location: About 3 miles southeast of the Tusayan community on the Tusayan Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest. The fire is located on the east side of state Highway 64 between Ten-X Campground and the southern boundary of Grand Canyon National Park. The fire is more than a mile south of the Grand Canyon National Park boundary and about two miles south of East Rim Drive.
Cause: Federal charges were filed yesterday against three campers from Texas for allegedly leaving their campfire unattended therefore causing the X Fire. For more information, please contact the U.S. Attorney's Office, Wyn Hornbuckle, 602-514-7573.

Resources Committed: 5 engines, 1 dozer, 2 hand crews. Total personnel = 55.
Closures: There are no closures at Grand Canyon National Park. Ten-X Campground is serving as base camp for firefighters and equipment and will remain closed until further notice due to fire activity. The Arizona Trail from Tusayan to Grandview is closed until further notice.
Summary: Today, firefighters continued mop-up operations during which they seek out and extinguish any hot spots remaining within the fire's perimeter. Fire crews also began rehabilitating dozer lines and other areas affected by suppression activities. Firefighting resources continued to be released for reassignment to other incidents. Forest roads 302, 688 and 303 are now open; however, please be advised of continued fire traffic on these roads. Please stay on roads and do not stop or block other traffic. The X Fire, which was called in at 12:39 p.m. April 29 by Red Butte Lookout, is not threatening the community of Tusayan, visitor facilities at Grand Canyon National Park, state Highway 64, or any structures. No structures have been lost.
