A Second Fire Starts Near The Alamo Fire

Incident: Alamo Wildland Fire
Released: 4/24/2008

A SECOND FIRE STARTS NEAR THE ALAMO FIRE

NOGALES, AZ, Wednesday April 23, 2008...The Beehive Fire which started early Wednesday afternoon became part of the Alamo Fire Complex. The fire is 8 miles north, North West of the Alamo Fire. It started near Murphy Peak on the Nogales Ranger District of the Coronado National Forest. It is approximately 5 miles east of Arivaca Lake in a very remote area of the forest. The fire is in Santa Cruz county near the border with Pima County.

There are no immediate threats to residential areas. However, drifting smoke may impact communities along the I-19 corridor between Tucson and Nogales, especially Tumacacori and Tubac. Arivaca may also be affected by smoke. There is a threat to an electronic site on Murphy's Peak.

The Eastern AZ Incident Management Team, commanded by Pruett Small, will continue to manage the Complex. The fire had burned an estimated 300 acres by sunset on Wednesday. It is being fought with air tankers and helicopters because of the remote location.
