Mountainair, NM - April 29, 2008, 9 pm: The Trigo Fire on the Mountainair Ranger District continues to smolder and burn after its start two weeks ago. The smoke that can be seen by the surrounding communities is not cause for alarm. It is the after effects of the burnouts that have taken place over the last several days. Control line, and large areas of black that cannot burn again surround this area of activity.

All of the firefighting resources on the incident are concentrated in two divisions. Division "B" is on the north central part of the fire and division "Y" is on the south central part. Mop up and rehab are what the fire crews have been working on today and they will continue with these activities for the next several days. Divisions on the east and west ends of the fire have already gone through the rehab process and are in patrol status.

The BAER (burned area emergency rehabilitation) team is on the fire and they are assessing the damage to natural resources. When they complete this process they will then make recommendations for restoration.
