Firefighters Turning the Corner on Trigo Fire
Weather conditions today were conducive to successful fire suppression efforts, and "We are turning the corner on this fire," said operations chief Ron Burnham. Rehabilitation was finished on the northwest flank, and rehabilitation will likely be completed on the southwest flank tomorrow.
Crews used engines and hoses to wet down burning fuel in New Canyon east of the campground. Mop up on the northern flank west of the campground and along the dozer line on the southeastern flank is expected tomorrow. Helicopters saw limited use today, due to the fact that there were very few hotspots needing attention. Some burnout is still needed, but weather conditions tomorrow are not favorable for that operation. Burnout is planned for Sunday, when conditions are predicted to improve.
A community meeting is scheduled for tomorrow evening at 6:00 PM in the Torreon Community Center. Possible natural resource restorative measures for those affected by the fire will be discussed. The local chapter of the American Red Cross has provided a toll free number (1-800-560-2302) for those needing assistance whose homes were lost or damaged by the Trigo fire.
