Green Valley Site Visit and Re-Entry Scheduled for FRIDAY, NOV. 2
The last remaining mandatory evacuation order in the San Bernardino mountains will be lifted at noon on Friday when residents of Green Valley Lake are able to return to their community.
From 9 a.m. to noon, residents who have suffered loss to their homes will be able to view their properties and salvage belongings. The three-hour visit will be restricted to those residents with damaged or destroyed homes that are listed on the Assessor's website at www.sbassessor.org.
Those residents should attend a briefing at the Arrowbear Fire Department station, located at 2365 Fir Dr. (corner of Fir Dr. and State Route 18), in Arrowbear where they will be given a pass necessary for participation in the visit. The mandatory evacuation order for this area will remain in effect during the visit. Beginning at noon, the mandatory evacuation order will be reduced to voluntary, and all residents will be allowed to return home without restrictions.
Public safety officials and utility companies have been working around the clock to prepare Green Valley Lake for re-entry. However, residents should prepare to be without power for two weeks, according to Southern California Edison.
For the site visit from 9 a.m. to noon, property owners must provide proof of identity such as a driver's license. Renters must provide proof of residency and identification can include driver's license, utility bill, credit card bill, a check, or an official document showing the resident's name and a physical address (not a P.O. Box).
Firefighters and law enforcement will be present, as well as counselors from the County Department of Behavioral Health, County Department of Public Health professionals, health care personnel, and representatives from the American Red Cross and the FEMA Community Relations Field Specialists.
People attending the site visit are advised to bring canvas gloves, sturdy footwear, eye protection, and to wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts. The County Department of Public Health will provide plastic bags for salvaged belongings, rubber gloves, and facemasks.
Information on the ongoing fire emergency, including the status of the fires, assistance resources, damaged and destroyed homes, is available via a disaster link on the county website, www.sbcounty.gov or by calling 211 or (888) 435-7565.
