Fire Name: Ranch Fire

Date and Time of Fire Start: October 20, 2007 - 9:42 p.m.

Size: 12,000 acres

Location: 8 miles northwest of Castaic near Townsend Peak;

West of Interstate 5 at Templin Highway

Angeles National Forest, Santa Clara-Mojave Rivers Ranger District

Closures: Old Highway 99 (at Templin Highway)

Containment: 0%

Vegetation: Heavy Brush and Chaparral (4-8 ft. high)

Chaparral is approximately 40 years-old

Cause: Under Investigation

Weather Conditions: Winds 30 m.p.h. with gusts to 60 m.p.h. Weather reports call for continued Santa Ana winds, with low relative humidity (8-15%) and temperatures ranging from 80's to 90's.

Evacuations: Recommended: Halsey Canyon, Oak Canyon and Piru Canyon

Precautionary: Fillmore and Piru

Evacuation Centers: Fillmore Veterans Memorial Building; 511 2nd St.; Fillmore 805-524-1500

Livestock: Ventura County Fairgrounds, 866-387-8911

Fire Behavior: Erratic fire behavior, driven by extreme winds. Fire is burning in a south-southwesterly direction away from Interstate 5.

Agency Jurisdiction: U. S. Forest Service, Angeles National Forest; Ventura County and Los Angeles County

Agencies Involved: U.S. Forest Service; Ventura County Fire Department; Ventura County Sheriff's Department; Los Angeles County Fire Dept; California Highway Patrol; Cal Fire; Los Angeles County Animal Control; Cal-Trans; Office of Emergency Services

Equipment and Personnel: Approximately 650 personnel are assigned to the fire: 32 Engines; 13 hand crews; 1 Helitanker, 6 Helicopters, 2 Fixed wing Aircraft, 5 dozers, 9 Water Tenders

Threats:

About 300 structures would be threatened (residences, commercial properties, outbuildings)

Structures Destroyed: One (1) outbuilding; 1 mobile home;

Injuries: None
