Location: 8 miles northwest of Castaic near Townsend Peak
Angeles National Forest, Santa Clara-Mojave Rivers Ranger District
Closures: Old Highway 99 (at Templin Highway)
Containment: 0%
Vegetation: Brush and Chaparral (4-8 ft. high)
Chaparral is approximately 40 years-old
Cause: Under Investigation
Weather Conditions: Winds 20-30 m.p.h. with gusts to 60 m.p.h. Weather reports call for
continued Santa Ana winds, with low relative humidity (8-15%)
and temperatures ranging from 80's to 90's.
Fire Behavior: The wind-driven fire is burning in a south-southwesterly direction
away from Interstate 5. Fire is currently visible from the freeway.
