Canyon Complex Closure

Bucks Lake Wilderness & Cold Fire Areas Open

Incident: Canyon Complex Wildland Fire
Released: 7/29/2008

The Bucks Lake Wilderness Area located on the Plumas National Forest, and west of Quincy, CA, has re-opened. The area had been closed as a result of fires that were sparked by a lightning storm on June 21 which became the Canyon Complex.

Additionally, the Cold Fire closure has been lifted. The closure encompassed the fire area west of Spring Garden, Sloat, Cromberg, south of the Quincy-LaPorte Road, and east of Nelson Creek. Visitors traveling in the area are advised to use caution by staying on established roads and to be alert to emergency vehicle traffic.

The Forest has lifted the closure, Forest Order #06-08, in the Cold Fire area and the Bucks Lake Wilderness, known on previous maps as Closure Area #3 and #2 respectively, effective today. The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) remains closed from Belden north (Hwy 70) (Forest Order #10-08) to the Plumas-Lassen National Forests boundary.

Other areas affected by the fires will remain closed until further notice. For more information about the closures and related maps, visit the Plumas National Forest website, www.fs.fed.us/r5/plumas, or call:
