Firefighters Contain the Meadows Fire

McCLOUD, Calif. - Firefighters completed a containment line around the 24 acre Meadows Fire, located about 8 miles southeast of McCloud this afternoon. The Incident Management Team estimates that the fire will be fully under control by 6 p.m. on September 20.

Crews are working to extinguishing any remaining hot spots, beginning with a 300-foot smoke free zone entirely around the fire. The Meadows fire began from a lightning strike about 6 p.m. on September 16. It grew rapidly under a major power transmission line, and forced the shutting down of the line to allow safe firefighting. The line has been energized again, and the shutdown did not interrupt power to customers.
