Gunbarrel News Release

Responsibility for Gunbarrel Fire Will be Returned

Incident: Gunbarrel Wildfire
Released: 9/5/2008

RESPONSIBILITY FOR GUNBARREL FIRE WILL BE RETURNED TO THE SHOSHONE NATIONAL FOREST

Cody, Wyo. - September 5, 2008

Kole Berriochoa's Type III Team, which has been managing the suppression efforts on the Gunbarrel Fire, is completing its final day of work before turning responsibility of the fire over to the local fire managers.

A break in the weather allowed the helicopter to fly crews into remote areas of the perimeter yesterday. Fire crews have been mopping up hot spots, retrieving equipment and rehabilitating areas disturbed during the fire suppression efforts.

Local fire management will monitor the fire after the team departs. "We are interested in seeing what might pop up next week when the weather warms up," said Clint Dawson, Fire Management Officer for the North Zone of the Shoshone National Forest. Dawson added, "We are not expecting significant fire activity when the temperature warm up but we will remain vigilant."

Unless there is a change in fire activity, this will be the last update from the Fire Team and the Forest.
