Press Release--Lindbergh Lake Fire 100% Contained

Incident: Lindbergh Lake Wildfire
Released: 7/27/2008

July 27, 2008, Condon, Montana - Fire officials on the Lindbergh Lake Fire declared it 100% contained this morning after progress made yesterday and another quiet night. Crews have been working tirelessly over the past several days in extreme terrain and have made tremendous progress on the fire. Incident commanders are ready to begin releasing crews to fight other fires but will keep the Great Northern Crew and the 15 smokejumpers to finish cleaning up this fire.

Local residents on Lindbergh Lake and in the town of Condon have expressed their gratitude to the fire crews, who managed to keep the fire from spreading over the ridge. The 64 acre fire was stopped and corralled through extensive air support and direct attack by ground crews. "There wasn't any way to get heavy equipment to help dig line around this fire," said Cindy Super, Public Information Officer for the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC). An excavator put in line at the top of the fire, but the bulk of the work has been done by hand.

Fire officials are very happy with the cooperation from all the agencies involved and would like to express their thanks for all the support. Everyone on the Incident Management team had nothing but praise for the crews on the fire: Chief Mountain Hot Shots, Kern Valley Hot Shots, Palouse (type 2 crew), Ronan #2 (type 2 crew), Ronan #5 (type 2 crew), Lolo Regulars (type 2 crew), Great Northern Fire Crew, and Missoula Smokejumpers. Offices and agencies involved are the DNRC, US Forest Service, Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes, Blackfeet Nation, MT Fish Wildlife & Parks, Mission/Swan Search & Rescue, local emergency services, Swan Ecosystem Center, and the community of Condon.
