Burroughs Fire Update September 11, 2013
Incident: Burroughs Wildfire
Burroughs Fire Update
Dubois WY (September 11 2013) The Burroughs Fire perimeter has had little growth for the past 9 days. The fire line containment percentage has grown to 24% contained.
Hunters and recreationists in the Horse Creek and other areas around Dubois WY may notice smoke from the Burroughs Fire. Areas of heat in the Burroughs fire may produce smoke during the day as well as visible flames if a single tree or a small group of trees ignite (firefighters call this torching.) “We like having those extra eyes out in the forest reporting wildland fires to us “said Nick Pieper Incident Commander trainee for the Burroughs Fire. “If you see smoke or a fire in the forest we like knowing about it but be aware we are monitoring and patrolling the Burroughs Fire and are aware of its smoke and fire activity.”
If you do see a possible wildland fire please report it to Cody Interagency Dispatch Center at 1-800-295-9954. If the fire is threatening private property or is a life safety issue dial 911. Information you will want to give dispatchers is your location where you think the fire might be what type of vegetation the fire is burning in how big the fire is (small medium large) if there are any structures or resources threatened and provide a call back number. The dispatch may need to ask you for additional information so they may get the firefighters there faster.
