Gobblers Fire Update August 29
Incident: Gobblers Wildfire
The Gobblers Fire began as a result of thunderstorms and lightning that started over twenty fires on the San Bernardino National Forest on August 19th. It is burning in steep, rugged terrain west of Gobblers Knob near Stockton Flats at the upper end of Lytle Creek southeast of Wrightwood.
The fire is 413 acres and containment is at 93%, there has been no increase in fire size since August 26. Firefighters have completed contingency lines at the base of the steep slopes north of Stockton Flats and are mopping up. However, heavy fuels and the possibility for “roll out” (burning debris rolling downhill) remains a concern, crews will continue to monitor the uncontained line. The full containment date of the fire is undetermined at this time.
Closures of the fire area and roads into the fire will be lifted by Saturday August 31. These include: Stockton Flats, Coldwater Canyon and Paiute Canyon yellow-post sites, Forest Road 3N06 above the shooting range, and Forest Road 3N33 is closed at the 3N31 junction.
