Incident: Incendiary Creek Wildfire
Wednesday, crews further improved and secured line along the northern end of the fire. Crews continued direct attack tactics on the fire in portions along the northern end where unburned fuels still exist between the fire and the contingency lines. Containment lines along the southern and eastern fire perimeter continue to hold as firefighters gridded the area for hotspots. Lolo Creek canyon was patrolled by helicopter, searching for hot spots across the creek.
A Stage 1 Protection Alert remains for residents north of Lolo Creek, in the vicinity of Lolo Creek, Hidden Valley, and Three Mile roads. Residents should remain alert to weather changes and fire behavior, as changed conditions could still result in the need to re-escalate the evacuation status.
Fire managers completed a “Palm IR” infrared assessment of remaining heat along the west side of the fire along Lolo Creek. No burning trees have fallen across Lolo Creek, but the risk remains. Regular aerial patrols and infrared imagery will be necessary for some time in order to ensure that the fire still has not spotted across Lolo Creek. Because the Lolo Creek canyon is so narrow with steep cliffs in places, it would not be possible to perform safe or effective fireline construction along the bottom of this drainage. So far, the fire has not crossed Lolo Creek; it is burning only along the northern side.
Today’s suppression efforts will again focus on the north end of the fire. Crews will further secure containment lines and attack any hot spots. Helicopter support will be used as needed. On the eastern and southern flanks of the fire, crews will continue patrolling the area regularly.
Closures: Because containment lines are still holding strong and fewer resources will be working in the fire area, the Clearwater County Sheriff’s office removed road blocks in the Three Mile road area. However, fire managers ask that the public continue to yield to fire traffic and keep clear of suppression operations. A Temporary Flight Restriction remains in effect surrounding the fire area.
