Eagle Fire Update August 29th 1300
Incident: Eagle Fire Wildfire
Favorable weather conditions and progressive firefighting efforts help contain the Eagle Fire located 5 miles northeast of Leavenworth, WA. Residents in the Eagle Creek area can expect to see fire crews and equipment over the next several days as firefighters continue mop-up operations and rehabilitation efforts in the Eagle Fire area.
The 1,457 acre Eagle Fire has been declared 100% contained. Although the fire is completely contained within fire lines, smoke may continue to be visible as large fuels within the interior of the fire area continue to smolder.
A local Type 3 Incident Management Team has taken over the fire and will be implementing standards developed by local Forest Service and Washington State Department of Natural Resources resource advisors on how fire lines will be rehabilitated to mitigate resource damage caused during fire suppression activities. Resources assigned to the fire will continue mop-up operations and rehabilitation efforts over the next several days. Rehabilitation efforts will include erosion control to minimize soil erosion, prevent the spread of noxious weeds, limit unmanaged access, and avoid disturbance to the riparian areas.
All business and visitor facilities in the Leavenworth area are open and can expect very little impact from the Eagle Fire over the holiday weekend.
Resources assigned to the fire includes those from the United States Forest Service (USFS), the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (WA DNR), Chelan County Fire District 3, as well as assistance provided by the British Columbia Forest Service. Effort and support from the Chelan Country Sherriff’s office, US Fish and Wildlife Service- Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery, and from the Chumstick Wildfire Stewardship Coalition has been greatly appreciated from the local management team.
