Today’s action will be to continue building line and setting up pumps and hose to protect Atlanta and its infrastructure. A group of five structural engines—like those used by city fire departments—will be used to protect buildings. In addition to the defensive measures, plans are to use three Hotshot crews to go direct along the fire edge in an attempt to stop the fire where it is if conditions permit...about three miles from Atlanta.
Competition for qualified firefighting resources is at the highest level nationally and within the local geographic area. Firefighting resources for the Little Queens Fire, in addition to the western states, are coming from Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Missouri, North Carolina, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota and Mississippi. Local resources are being utilized as well. Key for today’s operation will be the work of the Sawtooth, Boise and Idaho City Interagency Hotshot Crews.
Yesterday, Unified Command with Atlanta Rural Fire District/Elmore County was established making them full partners in the operation.
An informational meeting for the residents of Atlanta will be held tonight (August 22) at 5 p.m. at the Highway Department in Atlanta.
