Corral Complex September 8 AM Update
Incident: Corral Complex Wildfire
Incident: The Corral Complex was started by lightning on August 10 2013 and is burning within the 1999 Megram Fire and the 2009 Backbone Fire areas.
Location: Trinity Alps Wilderness
Agency Jurisdiction: Unified Command-USDA Forest Service and the Hoopa Valley Tribe.
Cooperating Agencies: Hoopa Valley Tribe Willow Creek VFD Hawkins Bar/Denny VFD Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Trinity County Sheriff’s Office Humboldt County DPW Humboldt County OES and Trinity County OES
Current Size: Complex is 12 295 Acres Cause: Lightning
Containment: 79% Structures Threatened: 0
Current Resources: Crews: 16 Engines: 20 Helicopters: 6 Dozers: 3
Total Personnel: 761
Current Situation: The fire continues to hold within the established containment lines. Some hot spots remain within the interior of the burn area but pose no threat to the line. The suppression plan for the operational period is to continue mop-up along the primary fire line. As the work continues crews that have been stationed and supported on the lines for the last several days will return to fire camp.
Smoke from the Butler Fire (10 miles north) continues to be seen and smelled in the Hoopa Valley. Smoke could settle into the valley during the night and remain trapped by a temperature inversion. Air quality information can be accessed through the following website: www.ncuaqmd.org.
Reports from crews in the area indicate that the wildlife within the Trinity Wilderness continues to thrive. Firefighters in the area have observed several bear deer mountain lions as well as quail and grouse on the move. Wildlife biologists believe that the slow moving nature of this fire has been beneficial to these animals. As vegetation begins to grow back there will be greater bio-diversity within the wilderness.
Fire managers continue to downsize operations releasing resources as appropriate. Beginning today the incident will only release one update per day.
Road Closures: Six Rivers National Forest issued an emergency fire road closure on August 30 2013 (Order No. 10-13-06) for all or part of the following: Forest roads 8N03 6N03 8N01. Road closures on the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation include Big Hill Road Tish Tang Road Mill Creek Gap and Four Corners due to fire personnel traffic and fire suppression activities.
Area & Trail Closures: For public safety and to ensure safe access for firefighters and equipment public access is restricted in the fire area. Shasta-Trinity National Forest issued a Forest Order to close the Corral Complex Area and all trails and roads within the area on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest effective September 5 2013.
