Incident: Corral Complex Wildfire
Incident: The Corral Complex was started by lightning on August 10 2013 and is burning within the 1999 Megram Fire and the 2009 Backbone Fire areas.
Location: Trinity Alps Wilderness
Agency Jurisdiction: Unified Command-USDA Forest Service and the Hoopa Valley Tribe.
Cooperating Agencies: Hoopa Valley Tribe Willow Creek VFD Hawkins Bar/Denny VFD Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Trinity County Sheriff’s Office Humboldt County DPW Humboldt County OES and Trinity County OES
Current Size: Complex is 12 295 Acres Cause: Lightning
Containment: 79% Structures Threatened: 114
Current Resources: Crews: 16 Engines: 21 Helicopters: 7 Dozers: 4
Total Personnel: 782
Current Situation: As the day progressed temperatures increased relative humidity dropped and a drying wind blew over the fire. This combination quickly dried out the fuels and the fire became more active. During a reconnaissance flight fire manages observed several individual logs smoking and burning within the interior of the fire perimeter. These hot spots posed no threat to the line.
Crews were successful in completing the construction of fireline in those areas that are accessible. This includes the full perimeter of the spot fire northwest of the main fire. Tomorrow crews will focus on improving and holding the line as conditions continue to favor active burning.
In addition they will also continue with rehabilitation efforts. These efforts consist of the construction of water bars on dozer lines. Water bars act as a channel by break up the ground flow of heavy rain reducing erosion.
Fire managers continue to downsize operations releasing resources as appropriate.
