Castle Fire Slowly Progresses
Incident: Castle Wildfire
The Castle Fire on the North Kaibab Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest continues to slowly progress, cleaning downed woody debris and recycling nutrients into the soil in a predominantly ponderosa pine forest type.
The lightning-caused fire, located one mile east of Big Springs, has grown to about 550 acres. Fire acitivity is increasing due to drying trends, warmer temperatures, and moderate winds.
The fire is being managed for multiple objectives within a maximum planning area of about 1,537 acres. Around 65 personnel remain on hand to manage the Castle Fire.
