Pony Complex Fire AM Update August 13, 2013 Contact: 1-866-347-0636 Start: 8/8/2013 Location: 12 miles Northeast of Mountain Home, ID Cause: Lightning Size: 143, 900 Fuels: Grasses, sagebrush and pockets of timber Observed Fire Behavior: Extreme running fire spread Assigned Resources: 330 personnel Containment: 30% Evacuations: Residents and property owners are being allowed back into the fire area. The road closures listed below still remain in effect for the general public. Closures: Blacks Creek Rd., Indian Creek Rd., Anderson Ranch Dam south on the Dixie Creek Cutoff to Hwy 20, Prairie Road/Cow Cr. Rd north from Hwy 20, Mayfield Rd and surrounding access roads Fire Situation: Containment lines held on most of the fire perimeter as thunderstorm activity and gusty winds passed through the area early this morning. Additional thunderstorms are possible this afternoon. As such, firefighters will be on the lookout for gusty winds that could cause a sudden increase in fire behavior. An isolated area of timber just above the Anderson Ranch Dam continues to be a problem spot for firefighters. Crews are hopeful that the smoke will clear out earlier today allowing helicopters more time to work the area. It remains a priority to keep the fire to the west of Highway 20. To the north, the fire continues to back slowly down to Black’s Creek Road. Firefighters working in that area are hopeful that favorable wind direction will allow them to keep the fire from spreading across the road. As fire activity diminishes the public is reminded to continue to use caution driving in the area. Resources will continue to work in all areas constructing and improving fire lines and beginning rehabilitation efforts.
