Forks Complex Update Monday September 16 2013
Two community meetings have been scheduled to inform folks about the Forks Complex fires. On Tuesday Sept. 17 at 5 p.m. a meeting will be held in Sawyers Bar at the Salmon River Restoration Council Office. On Wednesday Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. another gathering will take place in Forks of Salmon at the Community Center in the Old Schoolhouse.
Fire Weather and Fire Behavior – Low pressure with marine influence continues today with lower temperatures breezy conditions clouds and high humidity. Winds will be W/SW with gusts to 20 mph. There is potential for minor fire spread in shaded areas but generally decreased fire behavior is expected. Smoke might be visible today due to higher humidity causing incomplete burning. Another cool marine surge with possible light showers is expected for tonight and Tuesday.
Butler Fire – In the Northwest perimeter the Somes Mountain area crews will be mopping up to create a 300-feet-deep containment line where it can be accomplished safely in the steep hazardous terrain. In the China Creek and Butler Creek drainages and in the Orleans Mountain area firefighters will be monitoring the fire holding and securing containment lines. Rehabilitation of dozer lines continues in the southeast. Equipment is being backhauled from the line and personnel continue to be released as operations are completed. Air resources are being released as operations allow.
