Incident: Forks Complex (includes Butler Fire ) Wildfire
The focus of today’s shift is the defensive firing around Somes Mountain. Weather conditions are optimal for a low intensity burn to remove forest floor litter shrubs and ladder fuels which could fuel a high intensity fire. A mild inversion is capping much of the fire allowing for moderate activity through the early afternoon. Additionally afternoon winds will shift from the SW to W in the mid-afternoon a favorable direction. Air operations will support ground crews through the day. The fire has four type one (heavy) helicopters for bucket drops as needed. Reconnaissance flights will be flown by fire managers to observe conditions. A night swing shift is scheduled for monitoring fire activity through the night. Residents in Somes may see smoke through Friday’s shift with less intensity through the weekend. Winds may move smoke to different local communities the next few days. For more information call Forks Complex Information at 530.462.1518 (7:30am - 9pm).
