Incident: Big Windy Complex Wildfire
Firefighters are making good progress with this afternoon’s burnout. They are using hand ignition on the southeast flank of the fire to strengthen the fireline. There was some isolated tree torching earlier but it has settled down into a nice underburn, backing downhill. Applying fire in a slow, deliberate fashion allows firefighters to better control the outcome. When complete, an underburn between the main fire and the contingency line helps slow the spread of the fire and keep it from climbing into the tree canopy; where ground resources cannot fight it.
