Fire behavior on the Whiskey and Buckeye fires on Thursday was calmer than predicted. The maximum temperature was slightly lower and the relative humidity was slightly higher than expected. Some previously unburned areas within the perimeter of the Whiskey Fire continued to burn and produce smoke; however these spots are within the containment lines.
Fire suppression repair work continued on Thursday. Approximately 215 items were identified for repair. Several treatments have been applied including removing berms and grading roads removing protective wrapping from previously threatened structures redistributing slash cleaning out ditches and culverts installing waterbars chipping wood residue piles and creating mulch with the “Crambo 5000”. The resulting chips and mulch can be used to stabilize soils in some of the areas that were disturbed by the fire suppression activity. An Area and Road Closure continues for the area surrounding the Whiskey Complex for public and fire fighter safety. The Whisky Camp and Butler Butte Rentals remain closed along with the Black Canyon Camp Ground. The current closure orders are available on information boards on the Inciweb site listed in the sidebar or by calling fire information at (541)-839-3099 or the Tiller Ranger District at (541) 825-3100.
