A new Area and Road Closure Order 06-15-02-13-307 was signed today covering the Whiskey Complex. Significant changes; the 29 road is open through the Whiskey Fire area. No stopping on the road is allowed from the FS 3100 road to the FS 2925 road the western closure area outside the fire area has been reduced.
The Buckeye fire is now in patrol status with an engine crew keeping a watchful eye to catch any overlooked hot spots. Tuesday everything remained quiet. On the Whiskey fire those interior unburned islands flared up in the afternoon. Crews and engines were stationed along the southwestern flank in the headwaters of Beaver Creek. They were watching both inside and outside the containment lines looking for hot spots or new spot fires from flying embers. As of this morning the containment lines are still holding. Infrared imagery from overnight shows less heat than previous flights the results of excellent mop up efforts coupled with the fact that fuels are burning themselves out. Wednesday morning crews and equipment will return to continue mop up and fire suppression repair as well as preparing for another very hot and dry day.
Today temperatures could reach the mid 90’s again with relative humidity as low as 17%. Winds will be light in the mornings turning a little gusty in the afternoons to 10 mph out of the Northwest. This weather signals to fire fighters a watch out for the potential for any new fires to grow rapidly or ones with large areas of unburned fuel within their perimeters to flare up and threaten containment lines similar to Tuesday afternoon.
At the morning briefing fire fighters were reminded many times to keep hydrated by drinking lots of water throughout the day and taking short but frequent breaks.
For public and fire fighter safety road and area closures remain in effect. The Whisky Camp and Butler Butte Rentals remain closed along with the Black Canyon Camp Ground. The current closure orders are available on information boards or by calling fire information at (541)-839-3099 or the Tiller Ranger District at (541) 825-3100.Fire Information Center: 541-839-3099
