Suppression resources continue to grid and utilize hand held infrared cameras to seek out and extinguish heat as they mop up around the perimeters of the Whiskey and Buckeye fires. Once mop up objectives on the Buckeye fire are completed resources will shift to supporting the mop up efforts on the Whiskey fire.
Safety officers are stressing the importance of safety for the public and for fire fighters by continually assessing tactics, looking for safer alternatives, and performing risk assessments. The importance of safe driving, especially through school zones, was emphasized by the safety officer today. Keep an eye out for large vehicles, fire vehicles, pedestrian, and school related traffic on the roadways.
The importance of cleaning up along the roadways and worksites was reinforced at this morning’s briefing.
Trees impacted by the fires continue to fall unpredictably, potentially impacting roads and presenting a hazardous environment for the fire crews and the public. Area and road closures will remain in effect.
The weather for Tuesday is expected to be cooler, mostly cloudy, and with a chance of light showers. The threat of isolated thunderstorms increases Thursday and Friday. The weather is expected to become warmer and drier as the weekend nears.
An infrared (IR) flight Sunday night revealed more heat inside the fire perimeters than had been apparent from the visible smokes. While the fires are contained they still have a lot of heat in the interior and mop up will be an ongoing task.
