FIRE NAME: Emigrant Fire
DATE OF DETECTION: July 21, 2013
CURRENT SIZE: approximately 520 acres
LOCATION: South of Emigrant Peak, between Gold Prize Creek and North Fork Sixmile Creek
AGENCY: Gallatin National Forest
A public meeting has been scheduled for Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m.
at the Paradise Valley Fire Hall.
PERSONNEL AND RESOURCES ON THE FIRE: 3 Type 1 crews, 1 Type 2 crew, 2 helicopters, 4 engines and overhead for a total of 122 personnel.
TODAY’S ACTIVITY: Fire activity was minimal today due to clouds present over the fire area for most of the day and cooler temperatures. A thunderstorm tracked near the fire around 5:00 p.m. Some virga was visible with that strom, but no precipitation occurred over the fire. Firefighters continued to prepare indirect line northwest and west of the fire and along the North Fork Sixmile Creek. Helicopters aided ground operations with bucket drops, mainly in the North Fork Sixmile Creek drainage. One additional type 2 crew arrived and began work on the fire today. That crew and some of the engines will also be available for initial attack if the need arises.
TOMORROW’S WEATHER: Tonight’s relative humidity values are forecast to be in the high 60% range. Dry weather and warmer temperatures will return on Friday as a high pressure ridge builds back in over the area. Relative humidity values could fall into the teens Friday afternoon. Daytime winds will mainly be upslope and upvalley. TOMORROW’S PLANNED ACTIVITY: Crews will continue with the indirect line construction, and most of the line west of the fire should be completed tomorrow. Crews will continue working in the North Fork Sixmile Creek drainage and along Sixmile Road. The two helicopters will be available to drop buckets of water on hot spots as directed by ground resources.
CLOSURES & OTHER INFORMATION: The Forest Service portion of Sixmile Creek Road from its junction with the Dailey Lake Road will be closed until further notice. The Sixmile Creek Trial (#61) and North Fork of Sixmile Creek Trail (#606) will be closed to their junction with Trail #601 north of Monitor Peak. Connector Trail #601 will remain open. Dailey Lake and most surrounding camping areas are open to recreationists. Emigrant Fire Incident Command Post is located on a bench approximately ¼ mile north of the lake and that area is the only portion closed to the public. Please be cautious of fire traffic on Dailey Lake Road.
A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is in place over the fire area to ensure the safety of the aerial fire operations.
