Incident: Ridge Fire Wildfire
Ridge Fire Daily Update Monday, July 29, 2013
Fire Camp Info Line877-608-5655
Location: 14 miles Northeast of Lowman, ID
Size: 5,246 acres
Fuels: Subalpine Fir with intermixed Lodgepole Pine and Douglas Fir
Observed Fire Behavior: Fire behavior yesterday remained low with some surface spread and single tree torching.
Assigned Resources: 418 personnel
11 twenty person fire crews
Fire Situation: Fire fighters were successful yesterday as no fire progression occurred. Crews and aerial support worked diligently to focus on pockets of single tree torching and areas of ground heat keeping the fire within the perimeter. Most of the fire activity has been on the northeast corner. Firefighters will continue to mop-up and secure fire lines and build additional lines where needed. The Cat Lakes area will be staffed by a division supervisor and safety officer as rugged terrain, and falling trees make it unsafe for crews to work. Fire spread is minimal is this area.
Helicopters supported crews on the ground with water drops and began back hauling extra equipment off of the fire back down to base camp. As of yesterday, more than 68 tons of cargo have been transported from base camp to the fire. Firefighters will also begin rehabilitation of fire lines by placing debris, limbs, water bars, and displaced soil back onto the hand line to help conceal it and prevent erosion. This will occur where fire containment objectives were met.
Yesterday afternoon smoke became visible in the area. Current satellite imagery shows the smoke coming from large fires in Oregon and California.
