Final Fire Update for Sun Mountain Fire
Incident: Sun Mountain Fire Wildfire
Work is wrapping up on the Sun Mountain Fire. Firefighters and resources will be coming off of the fire tonight. Firefighters put in containment lines where they could and mopped up to strengthen those lines. The remaining fire perimeter is confined by natural features.
The 35 acre fire in the steep terrain of the Lake Chelan Sawtooth Wilderness will continue to be monitored and the area closure remains in place. A map of the closure area is available online at http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/3507.
There was one new lightning caused fire on National Forest Lands in Okanogan County today. Incident 284 is less than one acre near the left fork of Little Boulder Creek at the top end of Virginia Ridge. Four smokejumpers are working on the small fire north of Winthrop, Washington.
“In the wake of this morning’s lightning storm, Forest Service firefighters have been busy helping our partners respond to reports of wildfires at lower elevations,” said Shannon O’Brien, Public Affairs Specialist. “Teamwork, partnerships and cooperation are essential in managing fire. Working together and sharing limited resources keeps our responsiveness up and our costs down.”
