Local Team Assumes Management of Sinbad Fire
Incident: Sinbad Wildfire
A Moab-based Type 4 Incident Management Team assumed control of the 438-acre Sinbad Fire east of Moab on Saturday night as most firefighters and other personnel prepared for demobilization Sunday. The fire is 50 percent contained.
Fire managers will continue to monitor the fire, which is smoldering in timber and brush on Sinbad Ridge – a steep, inaccessible hilltop 29 miles east of Moab at the eastern extreme of the Manti-La Sal National Forest.
Remaining hand crews will improve fire lines and mop up burned areas, and a helicopter is available, if needed, for reconnaissance and to drop water on hot spots.
The wildfire began with a lightning strike on July 7. No structures were damaged.
