Measurable Amounts of Precipitation on Weiser Complex Hammers Fire Behavior
Incident: Weiser River Wildfire
Location: 20 miles west of Midvale Idaho
The Payette National Forest issued a revised Weiser Complex Fire Area Closure that affects the West Zone of the Payette National Forest. This includes the opening of previously closed Forest Roads trails and National Forest Campgrounds located within the Weiser Ranger District.
This Order will be in effect starting September 6 2013 at 6:00 AM and shall remain in effect until further notice.
Further information regarding this Order may be obtained at the Weiser Ranger District (208-549-4200) and the Payette Forest Supervisor’s Office (208-634-0700) McCall ID.
Yesterday’s thunderstorms brought measureable amounts of precipitation. Remote automated weather systems recorded precipitation amounts of .50 to 1.35 inches of water over the fire area. As a result of thunderstorms and associated downdrafts one spot fire was reported outside the fire perimeter .92 miles N/NE of Sturgill Lookout. It was quickly extinguished by fire crews that were working that portion of the perimeter.
Along the southeastern perimeter today crews will concentrate efforts in completing handline within the Bear Saddle area. These efforts will allow fire crews to tie together previously established handline north of Bear Saddle. A portion of the road that parallels Dennett Creek completely washed out which made a portion of the southern perimeter in-accessible for firefighters.
The Hells Canyon Fire:
The Hells Canyon Fire is 100 percent contained. A section of private property along the northern perimeter remains to be rehabilitated before the fire can be placed in monitor status.
A Temporary Flight Restriction and an Area Closure of the Payette National Forest remain in effect. A copy of the revised Closure and Closure Map along with other fire information can be found online on Inciweb at: http://www.inciweb.org/incident/3718/.
