Small Fire off Interstate 5 near the Packers Bay Exit
REDDING, Calif., Aug., 7 2013 – The Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area Management Unit of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest responded to a vegetation fire off of Interstate 5 just south of the Packers Bay Exit. The Holiday Fire was reported at approximately 1530. Resources from the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, assisted by a Sugar Pine Conservation Camp Crew and Shasta Crew 21, as well as multiple contract resources, were able to quickly and efficiently respond to this incident.
At the height of this incident there were two hand crews, five engines, a water tender, a helicopter, two tankers, and an air attack on scene. Due to this quick and aggressive response, the fire was lined with hose by 1630 and this incident was called contained at approximately 1750. Crews are now turning their attention to mop-up and patrol.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of this fire. The incident covered approximately one acre.
