Fire activity in Upper Colorado River region evening update
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Upper Colorado Region Interagency staff continue to work the growing Brush Creek Fire but no structures are currently threatened.
Crews began fighting the Brush Creek Fire late yesterday approximately 10 miles north of Rifle. The fire burning on BLM managed land is now approximately 400 acres. A Hot Shot Crew remains on the fire with one type 2 and one type 2 1A crew assisting. There is an additional Type 2 1A crew en route to the fire. Eight Engines and two helicopters are also working on the fire.
Increased winds are causing some difficulty for firefighters establishing containment on the fire. Evening winds are now gusting 20 mph contributing to some spotting ahead of the fire. There are 91 people currently assigned to this fire.
