Daily Update - June 18
Incident: Lackey Fan Wildfire
3 miles North of La Sal, Utah
Brush, Slash, Mixed Conifer, Aspen
Observed Fire Behavior
Ground spread, isolated torching (primarily inside the fire)
9 crews (180 firefighters), 9 engines, 3 helicopters, misc. overhead personnel
Fire Situation: Suppression efforts on the Lackey Fan and Dark Canyon fires are progressing well with both fires about halfway secured. A red flag warning will be in effect throughout the area from today at noon until Thursday at 10 p.m. The hot, dry and windy conditions will present a challenge, not only for the containment of the fire, but for firefighter safety. A handful of dehydration cases have been addressed by the team medical officer and staying hydrated has been stressed to all personnel.
Lackey Fan: With 60% of the fire contained, crews will be focusing on the unsecured edge of the fire on the northeast perimeter. Hotter, dryer weather will have a negative impact on productivity.
A spot fire directly east of the main fire has continued to smolder and will be a target as soon as crews can safely attack it.
Fire managers have elected not to impose road closures, but are asking that ATV and other public users avoid the area around the fires.
Breaking news and updates on these and other fires will be posted throughout the day on Inciweb.org and on Twitter @UtahWildfire. ###
