This is the last Update for the Black Forest Fire from Harvey’s Incident Management Team. For information refer to the Joint Information Center (719) 444-8300 (7 a.m. to 9 p.m.).
Fire behavior remained minimal with fewer hotspots being found. Firefighters continued to grid for hotspots in the fire area particularly around homes, suppressing any they found. No smoke was visible over the last two days during aerial reconnaissance. Progress on containment goals continue to be reached.
Today’ Forecast and Activity
Once again a Red Flag Warning has been issued for this afternoon and early evening for high winds, higher temps and low relative humidity. The continuation of hot and windy weather will test the work of firefighters over the last several days. Stubborn hotspots caused by stumps and debris piles will become more evident, allowing firefighters to locate and extinguish them.
Mop-up continues in the area of Vessey Road and northeast corner of the fire area. With hotter and even dryer weather conditions firefighters will continue to be on the alert for any initial attack activity outside the confines of this fire. Resources from this fire have assisted local fire agencies with a new fire start in Jefferson County.
The release of firefighting resources will continue as containment goals are reached.
Rich Harvey’s Incident Management Team will transfer command of the fire to a local team tomorrow morning at 6 a.m.
Evacuations and Closures Evacuated residents on most of the fire will be allowed to return to their homes today. For specific information pertaining to evacuations and area closures go to rsg.epcsheriff.com or contact the Joint Information Center at
