Current Situation: The fire continues to show heat in the unburned vegetation, particularly in the Cottonwood Campground area. There is a threat of the fire spotting across Elizabeth Lake Canyon in the North/West area due to some heavy unburned fuels. Smoke may be visible today; however, it is well within the containment lines.
Damage Assessment: In order to mitigate significant threats to safety, the environment and property, there are specialists evaluating the burn area. Treatments are being planned to help stabilize soil and to control water, sediment, and debris movement.
Demobilization: Firefighting efforts continue to be successful. With containment at 78%, fire crews and incident teams are beginning to demobilize, returning personnel to their home agencies. Forty local departments from California have assisted on the Powerhouse fire, with numerous other Federal and States resources represented.
