Interior Burning Highly Visible in Upper Flux Canyon
Incident: Soldier Basin Fire Wildfire
Tuesday fire personnel conducted burnout operations along the north and north east flanks in order to confine fire movement towards the north. These operations were conducted both with aerial ignition and fire fighters using drip torches on the ground. The burnout operation created a great deal of smoke along the north flank, particularly late in the afternoon. Fire managers successfully carried fire out to the prepared line in the northeast flank, near Flux Canyon Road, as planned. While the fire is now closer to homes, there is no threat to structures, as the fire is within the prepared line. The fire will continue to burn in this area and will be especially visible at night, and may appear closer than it actually is. Area residents should expect to see continued fire growth and smoke as firefighters continue aerial ignitions over the next 4-5 days. These burnout operations are a strategic tactic to tie the main body of the fire in with prepared lines.
