Dugan Fire Closure Modified

Incident: Dugan Fire Wildfire
Released: 9/28/2012

Ekalaka, MT... The Custer National Forest, Sioux Ranger District has modified the area closure for the 10,675 acre Dugan Fire. The new closure includes the fire area itself but allows access for foot travel only. The new closure area goes into effect at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2012.

Ekalaka Park Road (FS Road #3813), Hidden Springs Road (FS Road #3104), Ridge Road (FS Road #3812), JP Smith Road (#3814), and Dugan Draw Road (FS #3811) remain closed to motorized use. Ekalaka Park Campground will remain closed indefinitely. There are very dangerous snags in the fire perimeter so please take extra precautions and be acutely aware of your surroundings if traveling in the burned area.

Stage II Fire Restrictions remain in effect on the Sioux Ranger District given the dry conditions the area is experiencing. "Crews continue to find campfires people have built despite the dry conditions and fire restrictions," said Kurt Hansen, Sioux District Ranger. "It's important people take all necessary precautions not to start a new wildfire, including honoring the 1:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. use of internal combustion engines, having a shovel and bucket readily available, not starting a campfire, and smoking only within an area cleared of vegetation or in your vehicle."

Finally, on October 15th annually, some road restrictions on other portions of the Sioux Ranger District go into effect. Please remember to pick up a motor vehicle use map prior to heading out for hunting or recreational purposes.
