Due to the growth on the west side of Curren Mountain, and more accurate mapping, the fire has grown to 15,815 acres and is 50 percent contained. The northern portion of the fire continues to meet resource objectives and allows the fire to play a natural role in the environment. It will continue to be monitored by air resources.

Containment lines continue to hold the east and southwestern perimeter of the fire. Limited tree torching can still be expected within the perimeter. The northern portion of the fire has the potential to spread to the west along Curren Mountain, but due to natural barriers and non-continuous fuels, the potential is limited. Limited fire spread is possible on the north face of Echols Mountain.

Remaining fire resources will continue to patrol and mop up the fire as needed, as well as pull all equipment and supplies out of the area. Rehabilitation of machine and hand line will continue over the next several days.

Changing weather patterns will allow for one additional warm day before cooler and wetter weather arrives. Winds will increase on Friday and Saturday. Showers should develop Saturday morning and last into the evening. The prediction for Monday is for the possibility for ½ to 1 inch of rainfall. More showers will likely fall Tuesday and Wednesday. Winds will remain higher throughout the weekend and into early next week.

The fire closure area effective October 10th, 2012 will remain in place until fire managers determine the fire has received enough moisture to lift the entire closure area.

The road to Black Lake (FS Road 112) is closed at the junction of FS Road 112 and Trail 517. Huckleberry Campground is now open. The Choke Cherry Flat Road (FS Road 158, Trail 178 and 179) is closed and is the eastern most boundary of the closure. Refer to the closure order and map on inciweb.org.

This will be the last Wesley Fire Update until the fire closure area is lifted.
